Foreign travellers file the China Digital Arrival Card online before landing. Eligible nationalities may use the 240-hour visa-free transit — not 144. The shorter figure was replaced on 17 December 2024 and still appears on many travel pages.
Two pedestrian-only crossings. You clear immigration on foot and arrive inside an MTR station — no bus or taxi needed on the Hong Kong side.

The documents are not the same as a foreign passport, and the rules run the other way. What is closed to a third-country passport may be open to a Chinese one.
往来港澳通行证 (EEP) plus a valid endorsement. A passport is not used for these trips. Endorsements are applied for at the local Exit–Entry office or on the 移民局 app; the quota and validity depend on the hukou province.
大陆居民往来台湾通行证 plus an entry permit issued by the Taiwan side. Two separate documents, obtained from two separate authorities.
Of the 69 land crossings, 31 are restricted to bilateral traffic — meaning citizens of China and of the adjoining country only. Those are closed to third-country passports but open to Chinese nationals. It is the same list read the other way round.
Ordinary passport plus the destination's visa. The Exit–Entry office issues the passport; the visa comes from the destination's embassy or its visa centre.
