Independent visitor guide to Shenzhen for APEC 2026 (18–19 November). Airport and rail arrivals, the eight border crossings to Hong Kong and Macau, the 240-hour visa-free transit, emergency numbers and metro. Not affiliated with APEC.
Bao'an International Airport, the high-speed rail stations, and how to reach Futian and Qianhai from each.
Shenzhen has eight border crossings. They are not interchangeable: opening hours, transport on the far side and queue lengths differ.
Eligible passport holders can transit visa-free for 240 hours — not 144. The arrival card is filed online before you land.
Emergency numbers differ between the mainland, Hong Kong, Macau and Chinese Taipei. Dialling the wrong one costs minutes.
The China Hi-Tech Fair opens in Shenzhen on 26 November, eight days after the leaders' meeting. Canton Fair and the Hong Kong shows run in October.
Hotels near the venues, and restaurants by district.
Metro is the only mode that ignores road closures. Payment works by QR code — foreign cards are increasingly accepted but not everywhere.
